Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Materials are primarily from the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri, with additional materials from the Missouri League of Women Voters (LWV-MO), and the National League of Women Voters (LWV-US). The first four series contain information regarding administration of the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri, including annual reports, meeting minutes, financial records, and membership information. The voter services and local studies series contain materials relating to league activities and their work within the community. The voter services series has information about the electoral process such as voters’ guides, candidate forums, and election procedures, as well as other related material. The local studies series contains publications and study materials from the Missouri League of Women Voters and the National League that the local league utilized to reach consensus and to write position papers on political issues, as well as information on the work that the league did on these issues. Some of the programs that are covered in the local studies series are the emergency disaster warning system and the recycling program, both of which the league sponsored. In addition, throughout the first six series relevant news clippings are located with the topics they cover. The seventh series, publications, contains local, state, and national League of Women Voters newsletters. The eighth series contains media and ephemera such as photographs, recycling handouts, handmade items, league videos, CD-ROMs, and awards presented to the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri. The last series contains two ward maps of Cape Girardeau in oversized storage.

Abstract

Series contains information on a variety of studies conducted by the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri on issues such as Cape Girardeau’s disaster warning system, environmental quality, recycling, and hazardous waste, planning and zoning, education, healthcare, home rule and Cape Girardeau city charter, state and national government, and international relations.
