Scope and Contents
Includes journals, photographs, and a memory book from McGath’s time at New Madrid Camp #3729, materials on CCC reunions from 1973-2008, artifacts, and other records. Of special note are the journals, as they contain a lot of information about what the men would expect when joining the camps, and also what the men were doing once they were working in the camps.
Also includes financial information on what the CCC spent money on for meals and reunions. The correspondence is mostly relates to mailing out invitations to members of the CCC for reunions.
Along with materials donated are two cassette tapes with an oral interview conducted with Mr. McGath in April of 2009. Atranscript is available.

Biographical / Historical
Ray McGath was born in Portageville, Missouri in 1919 and was the son of a sharecropper. McGath joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in 1939 and worked for them until 1941. As a CCC worker McGath, like many other men during the Great Depression, worked to provide money for his family. McGath worked at the New Madrid, Mo. CCC Company #3729. After his career for the CCC he joined the Navy in 1941 to aid his country in WWII as a signalman. McGath currently resides in Poplar Bluff.
