Jefferson Bates Papers
Scope and Contents
The majority of the collection consists of speeches ghostwritten by Jefferson Bates covering a variety of information such as Apollo Missions, NASA debriefs, and speeches given to college students. The Speeches are arranged chronologically and the general NASA materials are in alphabetical order materials much of the general NASA materials information about Skylab, NASA history, and Apollo mission information. There are also 39 pictures that range from airplanes to diagrams of different nuclear engines.

Biographical / Historical
Jefferson Bates was a Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) graduate in 1941. While at SEMO he was the associate editor for the Capaha Arrow and won the Black Mask Playwriting Contest. He later went on to work for NASA from 1958 to 1980. While at NASA he served as chief ghostwriter and wrote numerous speeches.

Abstract
Primarily speeches (typescripts, carbons, photocopies) by Bates, speechwriter for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from circa 1958 to circa 1980, and graduate of Southeast Missouri State University (1941). Also contains NASA publications and pamphlets, photographs, slides, Congressional reports, plaques and ephemera. Largely relates to the Apollo 8-17, Skylab 1-2, and Viking missions.
