Mabel Post Papers

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 1998.033

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of writings created by Mabel Post about Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, and surrounding counties, during her time as a field worker with the Federal Writers’ Project (FWP). The writings cover a broad range of topics about the history and culture of the region. Post often cites other local history reference materials, such as newspapers, pamphlets, or personal oral histories. There are also photographs of historic homes in the collection.

Most of the original documents in the collection have been photocopied, transcribed, and discarded. Existing originals are housed with their transcriptions and photocopies.

The donor made clear that the original order of the collection had been disrupted/destroyed over time. Materials have been given folder titles and arranged alphabetically based on Federal Writers’ Project topic headings, which were used and numbered by Post at the beginning of her writings.
