Colonel Henry Lee Kinnison Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection contains the foreign and US newspapers, full and clippings, kept by Colonel Kinnison during his time in the military between 1890s and 1910. The collection also contains a copy of "Memories of the Campaign of Santiago" by James A. Moss that has additional ephemera, photographs, and notations by Kinnison. The foreign newspapers are in poor condition and have been digitized for access. The full newspapers are housed separately in their own box. Their order is by size and current state of degredation. The undigitized US newspapers are on the top of the box. The remaining clippings and ephemera are housed together. The clippings have been orgainzed by size and arranged chronologically in their folders when applicable.

Biographical / Historical
Henry Lee Kinnison was born June 12, 1865 in Charleston, Missouri to William David Kinnison and Mary Isabelle Kinnison (Roberts). He inlised in the United States Army on Nov. 14, 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Nettie Browning Danforth on Dec. 22, 1892. They had a girl, Grace A. Kinnison, and a boy, Col. Henry Lee Kinnison II. Colonel Henry Lee Kinnison was involved in military campaigns in China, Cuba, the Spanish-American War and World War I between 1888 and his retirement as Colonel in 1923. He died on May 31, 1939 in San Francisco County, California.

Abstract
Materials collected by Colonel Henry Lee Kinnison of Charleston, Missouri, a veteran of the Spanish-American War. Includes newspapers from the United States and abroad, international political cartoons clipped from newspapers from 1898-1904, and a book, Memories of the Campaign of Santiago, June 6, 1898- August 18, 1898, on experiences during the Spanish-American War.
