Biographical / Historical
The Big Hill farmstead is part of the original 1799 Spanish land grant to William Daugherty, Berenice Daugherty Williams’ paternal grandfather. Berenice inherited the estate when she married Harrison Harvey Minton Williams in 1842. When Berenice Daugherty Williams died in 1875, her husband H.H.M. Williams moved to Jackson. One of their sons, Samuel Williams, married Fredericka Welling in 1883 and they lived at Big Hill. When Samuel Williams died, his son Manning Williams returned to Big Hill to sustain it. At the time that The Cash-Book Journal article was written in November 2000, G. Frederick Williams and his sister Mary Kate Williams Johnson owned the estate. They are the children of George and Katrina Williams.
