Illinois Soil Reports
Scope and Contents
71 county soil reports along with an index that define the types of different soils and their effect on agriculture. Farm acreage censuses list agricultural production numbers by county, and soil survey maps show soil types and locations in specific counties. Reports are arranged by date.

Biographical / Historical
The Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Illinois generated soil reports from 1911 to 2006 to determined soil conditions for individual counties in Illinois. The reports informed farmers of methods that would help increase crop yields. The reports divide the state into three different soil regions: Corn Belt, Southern Illinois, and Ozark Hills. The Corn Belt contains the most workable and highest yielding soil types for agriculture use followed by the soils of Southern Illinois and finally the soils types of the Ozark Hills.
