Scope and Contents

Thirty six programs for the Southeast Missouri High School Athletic and Oratorical Association, later known as the Southeast Missouri High School Meet. These programs include a schedule of events, a list of participating schools and athletes, photographs of athletes and Third District Normal School buildings, as well as advertisements of Cape Girardeau businesses that sponsored the competitions.

Biographical / Historical

The Southeast Missouri High School Athletic and Oratorical Contest was a regional competition held in Cape Girardeau beginning in 1906, involving schools throughout Southeast Missouri. Events varied from year to year, but would include athletic events such as track and field, basketball, baseball. The competition also held academic events such as public speaking, music, theater, agriculture, typewriting, and home economics. The winners of each event advanced to the state meet. Beginning in 1940, the competition comprised of only track and field events.
