Biographical / Historical
The Cape Girardeau Eagle was originally published by Ben F. Herr from 1857 until the May 26 1859 issue, when the publisher changed Herr & Moor. The February 1861 through the March 21 1861 issues were published by M. H. Moor. At this point the publishers closed down the paper and left Cape Girardeau.
Beginning May 10, 1862 the newspaper was once again published, but the name changed to Cape Girardeau Eagle: Union Series. It was published “under the auspices of the First Wisconsin Calvary” because the commander wanted to communicate with entirety of the district under his command. The Union Series ran for 12 issues.
