Biographical / Historical
The Burfordville Mill is a large, four-story stone and brick building located in Burfordville, Missouri just off Missouri Highway 34. In 1971 it received the designation of State Historic Site and is the last in a succession of three mills which were located on this site. This mill, which uses water power to grind grain, represents two hundred years of local history. The present mill, which was built during the Civil War era, is still open to the public and the grinding of corn into corn meal can still be witnessed during their hours of operation.
Another feature of the Burfordville Mill Historic Site is the covered bridge nearby. It is 140 feet long and crosses the Whitewater River, which provides power for the mill. Its construction began in 1858 and it is the oldest of four remaining covered bridges in Missouri.
