Denison L. Burton Collection

 Collection — Box: 2612, Folder: 005
Identifier: 2001.054

Scope and Contents

The collection appears to have been assembled by James J. Reeves for a history that he wrote for the Reunion Society of the 24th Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers. Along with the written history there is a camp report listing daily activities of the regiment from September 16, 1862 through June 1, 1863. Included in this report is a list of those who were killed, wounded, deserted, discharged, died, resigned, and promoted in each company. It also contains some news clippings and correspondence between Reeves and several of the regiment’s members or their widows in which the veterans (or their widows) tell the story of the formation of the regiment, daily life, and about the battle of Chancellorsville in their own words.
