Biographical / Historical
The American Association of University Professors was created in January of 1915 by Edward Ross and Arthur O. Lovejoy. It was formed to attempt to provide protections for professors against being censored or terminated due to their personal views and to also allow for academic freedoms. It launched its first investigation into wrongful termination in April of that same year. In 2013 the organization restricted into the AAUP- the professional organization, the AAUP Foundation, and the AAUP-CBC- a labor union.
