Biographical / Historical
For decades, the collections acquired by the University resided in numerous places with lax governance. On 1 December, 1976, the University Museum was established and all artifacts were placed under a single roof in Memorial Hall, overseen by a full time director. In 1990, the Museum Advisory Committee was created to guide the museum. Over the years, the museum has accrued various collections, typically from individuals with roots in the local area. The University collections and the museum itself, have resided in many places throughout their lives, including Academic Hall, Kent Library and Memorial Hall. In 2007, the museum moved to the River Campus and renamed the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Southeast Missouri Regional Museum. The museum is open to the public with free admission and serves to educate the campus community and the Southeast Missouri region.
