Biographical / Historical
Joseph Archibald Serena was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1874 and spent his youth there and in nearby Covington, Kentucky. He worked in the banking business for a decade before graduating from Eureka College, Eureka, Illinois. Prior to serving as President of Southeast Missouri State College (1921-1933), he held presidencies at Keuka College, Keuka Park, New York and William Woods College, Fulton, Missouri. As an ordained minister of the Christian Church, Serena served as a pastor of churches in New York, Oklahoma, and California. He died in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1959.
