Biographical / Historical
The Trail of Tears refers to the 1838 forced migration of the Cherokee people from their homes in the states of Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina to reservation lands in what is now the state of Oklahoma. Part of the forced migration camped for the winter of 1838-1839 at what is now Trail of Tears State Park, just north of Cape Girardeau, MO.
