Wilhelmina Vieh Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection is arranged into three series: music books, sheet music, and ephemera. The music primarily consists of “The World’s Best Music” series, which includes both vocal and instrumental music. The sheet music is divided into loose-leaf pieces, short paper-bound pieces (primarily lesson books), and oversize music. The ephemera is organized into hand-written music, school assignments, and information on Vieh’s other interests and hobbies.

Biographical / Historical
Wilhelmina Vieh, born January 4, 1876, spent most of her childhood in Ste. Genevieve, learning to play piano at the convent school. Vieh continued her music education at Columbia University, before transferring to Southeast Missouri Normal School. After completing her degree and getting her masters at Columbia University, Vieh became a teacher at Southeast Normal School where she started the first string ensemble and wrote the music for the Alma Mater. After teaching for 30 years, Vieh died in retirement on August 29, 1960.

Abstract
Personal papers of Wilhelmina Vieh, an alumnae and music instructor at Southeast Missouri State University, primarily consisting of Vieh’s music collection, including several music books, sheet music, and manuscripts. Also includes booklets about some of Wilhelmina’s other hobbies, such as gardening.

Donated to the Kent Library Archives in 2011 by David E. and Frances Lynn McLain, the current owners of Miss Vieh’s former residence.
