Scope and Contents
Correspondence, newspapers, photocopies, and journal articles pertaining to Douglas Wixson’s research on Harold Harwell Lewis (1901-1985). Also included is Lewis’s correspondence and poetry from the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University Library and the H.H. Lewis Papers (1927-1981) at Kent Library, Southeast Missouri State University. The papers are arranged by type of material, then chronologically.

Biographical / Historical
Douglas C. Wixson Jr. (Ph.D., University of North Carolina, 1971) began teaching at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) as an Associate professor of English in 1976. He is a former recipient of the University of Missouri’s Thomas Jefferson Award and is a Professor Emeritus of English at UMR (now Missouri University of Science and Technology). Wixson has spent his career researching writers associated with the American literary left.

Abstract
Correspondence, newspapers, photocopies, and journal articles pertaining to Douglas Wixson’s research on Harold Harwell Lewis (1901-1985), a Missouri farmhand poet and Communist essayist, for an article in the William Carlos Williams Review titled: “In Search of the Low-Down Americano: H.H. Lewis, William Carlos Williams and the Politics of Literary Reception, 1930-1950.” Wixson was Associate Professor of English at the then-University of Missouri-Rolla. He edited The Weed King and Other Stories by Jack Conroy and is Jack Conroy's literary executor.
