Records the re-organization of the Internormal League of State Normal Schools of Missouri on March 27 1908. Also includes loose, typewritten minutes from the business meeting and the Seventh Annual Oratorical Contest in 1914, typewritten minutes from their meetings in 1920 and 1921, as well as judge’s scorecards from same, loose scorecards from oratorical contests (some dated and some not), and two programs from oratory/declamatory contests.

Organizational Sketch

Started in the early 1870s, Missouri Normal Schools were unique in that they taught teachers, principals, and superintendents for all public schools. The curriculum was chiefly for teaching and administrators of schools. Many states had “Teachers Colleges” or “Normal Universities.” Missouri founded Normal Schools in Cape Girardeau, Springfield, Warrensburg, Kirksville, and Maryville.

The Internormal League sponsored annual oratorical contests between the Missouri Normal Schools and recorded the minutes of their annual business meetings in this ledger. Both women and men were active participants and debated together in teams in this league. On March 27 1908, representatives of each of the Normal Schools met in Warrensburg to re-organize the Internormal League of State Normal Schools of Missouri.
