Flooding Essays by Shawnee High School Students
Abstract
This collections contains essays written by students of Shawnee High Scool in Wolf Lake, Illinois. They detail the students' experinces during the flooding that took place during December 2015 and January 2016. Many students reference their concerns about the levee system in place and whether it would protect their community.
During this flooding event, almost 10 inches of rain fell in a matter of days causing hundreds of millions of dollars of damage across the area. Communities along the Meramec River were particularly hurt. At St. Louis, the Mississippi River reached the third highest level on record.
