Biographical / Historical

Madison County, Missouri, is located in southeast Missouri west of Cape Girardeau County. Its county seat is Fredericktown. The county was organized in 1818 and named for President James Madison. Mining has been a key industry in this area with Madison County recorded as having the oldest lead mine west of the Mississippi River.
