Biographical / Historical

Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing was built from 1921 to 1923 with local limestone and designed in the neoclassical style by Study and Farrar of St. Louis. Its construction was delayed in 1922 because of flooding. It originally held the Training School, the University School, and the University High School until it was moved into the Mark F. Scully Building. The building was referred to as the ‘Old Campus School’ after the move. The building underwent a major renovation in 1987 and was rededicated in 1988 in honor of philanthropist, women’s health activist, and long standing member of the Southeast Missouri State University foundation, Mrs. Rosemary Berkel Crisp. During the renovation, the U-shaped north side of the building was enclosed to house Dempster Auditorium. Crisp Hall currently houses the College of Health and Human Services and the Center for Health and Human Services that serves as a full time student clinic on campus.
