University Buildings and Grounds Collection
Scope and Contents
Correspondence, programs, photographs, contracts, building plans pertaining to the buildings on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. The majority of the collection is on Cheney Hall, Kent Library, the Show-Me Center, and the University Center. The collection is organized into series and arranged by building. It is further broken into subseries arranged by topic and date.

Biographical / Historical
Southeast Missouri State University opened in 1873 as the Southeast Missouri Normal School, initially encompassing only one building on campus. The institution later evolved into a college and then a university, which currently possesses around 30 main buildings, as well as numerous smaller buildings on and off campus. Only the main buildings are listed in the following note, including several that are no longer standing. The notes on individual buildings are listed in chronological order of construction or university acquisition. More information can be found using the University’s online Building Index.

Abstract
The University Buildings and Grounds Collection contains booklets, programs, correspondence, proposals, contracts, and blueprints regarding the construction, renovation, and maintenance of Southeast Missouri State University campus buildings. The materials within the collection pertain only to the campus buildings themselves and not the institutions housed within them.
