Biographical / Historical

Cheney Hall was built in 1939 as a Public Works Administration (PWA) project along with Kent Library. It was designed in the neoclassical style to match the aesthetic of the rest of campus and built of limestone from a local site. It is the oldest residence hall still standing on campus. The hall is named for Lucius H. Cheney, the University’s first president.
