Biographical / Historical
Brandt Hall of Music was built between1959 and 1961 and is named after J. Clyde Brandt, a longtime professor of music at the university. Originally intended as a science building, its purpose was converted to house the growing Music Department. It served this role until the recent addition of the River Campus that now houses all performing arts classes. Brandt now serves a number of roles, including office space, classrooms, practice rooms, and is the home of the SEMO Marching Band, the SEMO Music Academy and the NASA Educator Resource Center. Brandt Hall is built into the side of a hill overlooking the Marching Band practice grounds and built in an airy, delicate modernist style with walls of windows.
