Biographical / Historical

Peter Jeffrey Reckling is a native of Louisville, Nebraska, where he graduated from Louisville High School in 2016. While attending Southeast Missouri State University, he received a Bachelor of Science in historic preservation with a minor in history in 2020. He received a Master of Arts in public history with an emphasis in historic preservation in an accelerated degree, of which he and Jared Anderson were the pilot students. Reckling’s parents bought a home for him to live in, repair, and restore in Cape Girardeau at 920 West Rodney Drive in March 2018. Reckling also became one of the youngest-ever city commissioners on Cape Girardeau’s Historic Preservation Commission in July 2019. For his undergraduate internship, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered and carried out site management projects at the David A. Glenn Victorian House Museum in Cape Girardeau, and completed the final portion of 100+ sites in an architectural resource survey for the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission. He also participated in building tours, workshops, field school, and salvage operations or documentation of residential homes around Cape Girardeau and buildings on campus being demolished. Reckling completed his Master’s degree with an internship at the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office in Lincoln, Nebraska, meeting the final requirement for graduation. He participated in the May 15, 2021, 6 PM commencement ceremony at the Show Me Center.
